How to read the directory

Each row uses the institution's registered College Scorecard name, primary-campus state, reported undergraduate enrollment, and ownership sector. Sort by enrollment to compare scale, or use the alpha index when you know a school's name. A missing value means the source did not report a usable figure; it is not zero.

School profiles add average net price, admissions, completion, debt, program, and former-student earnings measures where the federal source reports them. Institution earnings cover federally aided entry cohorts who were working and not enrolled 6 or 10 years after starting school; they are not graduate-only salaries and do not cover every former student.

Methodology

The college directory is sourced from the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard and the IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) institutional characteristics file. Every institution that participates in Title IV federal student aid is included. Enrollment figures come from IPEDS Fall enrollment surveys; ownership sector (public, private nonprofit, private for-profit) follows the Carnegie classification as reported by each institution. Sorting and alphabetical indexing are computed at build time from the full directory snapshot. See our full data methodology for suppression rules, data vintage, and processing details.
